Why am I struggling to get into/maintain ketosis?

Getting into or staying in ketosis can be harder for some people.  There are several reasons why this may occur but it is important to first check and make sure you have your Keto Diet in check.

One of the most common reasons why you may be struggling to get in or stay in ketosis is allowing your carbs to creep up too high.  If you are not counting carbs, it is very easy for this to happen since many foods contain trace amounts of carbs and there are hidden carbs in many of the foods you may be eating.  To assess this, be sure to check labels and don’t be afraid to track your carbs to make sure you are staying below 30g or even lower.

It is also important to note that you may only think that you are having a hard time getting into or staying in ketosis.  If you think you are having a hard time due to your blood ketone readings, note that these numbers can often be misleading, difficult to understand, and impacted by multiple factors.  If you are feeling the benefits of ketosis such as increased energy, improved mental focus, and/or weight loss, chances are you are in ketosis!
